6 Simple Solutions To Keep Your Feet Warm In Bed

With the combination of cold winter weather and the crazy high energy costs we’re currently experiencing, it can be a struggle to stay warm inside our homes. And when it comes to bedtime, making sure our extremities stay warm can be a real challenge.

Keeping your feet warm in bed is a major issue. Once they’re cold it makes it pretty much impossible to get to sleep. Thankfully, there are some cost-effective solutions to this problem and in this post we’re going to explore some of the easy ways you can keep your feet warm in bed, so that you can guarantee yourself a cosy night’s sleep

1. Wear Socks

The obvious answer to keeping your feet warm in bed is to wear socks. Hardly sexy, we grant you, but a solution none the less. For ultimate warmth opt for socks made from Merino wool, Alpaca wool, or if you can afford it, luxurious Cashmere.

2. Extra Blanket

A simple and cheap solution is to put an extra blanket on top of the bed on a cold night. You might not always need to have it completely covering you, but having something like a throw at the end of your bed will keep your feet warm and then you can always reach down and pull it over you if the rest of your body gets cold.

3. Hot Water Bottle

Hot water bottles are a fantastic way to target certain areas that you want to keep warm when you’re in bed. You might not have necessarily thought to use one to warm your feet in bed before, but it can be really effective. You can either place it at the foot of the bed, under the duvet for a few minutes and then remove it when you get in. Or you can sleep with your feet resting on top of it overnight. It all depends on how cold your feet get.

A couple of important things to remember:

  • Always check for leaks – most hot water bottles last between 2-3 years.
  • Don’t fill it up too close to the top – there’s usually a maximum capacity line inside the neck of the bottle.
  • Put a cover on it – the fluffier the better for ultimate comfort and to ensure you don’t burn your feet.

4. Bath Before Bed

Having a warm bath raises your body temperature, which means if you go to bed straight after you essentially become your own hot water bottle. On top of that, a bath before bedtime is a great way to unwind from the day and has been proven to give you a better night’s sleep. For ultimate relaxation pop a couple of lavender essential oils into the bath water, dim the lights, and light your favourite scented candle. Just be careful not to fall asleep in the bath!

5. Electric Blanket

Electric blankets are a great energy efficient way to keep your feet warm in bed, and the rest of you for that matter! Rather than paying to heat the entire house, you can turn the electric blanket on for a couple of hours before going to bed, so that it’s lovely and toasty and warm when you climb under the duvet. Some electric blankets come with an automatic timer that allows you to set them to heat for a certain length of time before they switch off.

6. Your Partner

And if all else fails and your tootsies are still cold, well there’s always your partner to warm them up on.
