6 Sleep Trends For 2025 That Will Send You To Sleep In No Time

As we approach the end of the year, it’s time for us to look ahead and make our predictions for what we think the sleep trends of 2025 will be. Based on current trends and industry forecasts, we’ve put together 6 sleep trends that we think help your quality of sleep in 2025. Let’s check them out!

1. Sleep Divorce

A recent survey from the hotel chain Hilton, reports that 63% of travellers sleep better when they sleep alone. There’s certainly a lot to be said about having your own space in bed and being undisturbed by another person’s sleep quirks.

Sleep divorce is all about sleeping in separate beds in order to get a better night’s sleep. Although, this is nothing new, (when Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton were together, they famously lived in separate adjoining houses such was their need to spend time apart from one another. And the artist Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera also prioritized private space over sharing a bed together) it is set to become a popular sleep trend in 2025.

And we can totally understand why. With sleep issues like snoring, sleep apnoea, and sleepwalking making good quality sleep difficult enough to come by, when you throw in menopause sweats, duvet stealing, fidgeting, and other irritating habits it’s a wonder any of us get a good night’s sleep when we share a bed with our partner.

Despite sleep divorce sounding as though it could mark the end of a relationship, when you’re on different sleep schedules and facing the issues above, having the chance to sleep in your own bed means you’ll be less fatigued and far less irritable, which will therefore make for a much happier relationship in the long term.

2. Hurkle Durkle

We’re used to hearing strange words crop up in our trend posts and you’ll be pleased to hear that the sleep trends for 2025 have got another good one for you. Because next year we’ll all be looking forward to doing some hurkle durkling.

The phrase hurkle durkle, means to stay in bed longer than you need to. It comes from the Scottish word ‘hurkle’, meaning to hunker and sit in a crouched position. Now, you might well be thinking, that just sounds like a bog standard lie in. But a hurkle durkle is more than that.

To hurkle durkle is to lounge around in bed all day. To slob out in your comfies. To have no plans. To literally bed rot all day. Through choice. Not because you’re hungover and that’s all you’re capable of. Hurkle durkle is a choice thing, you do it because you love your bed, and you love the lounge life.

And you can totally get why this has come from the Scots. After all, this time of year is pretty bleak up north. It’s cold, dark, wet… quite frankly it’s enough to make anyone want to hurkle durkle!

3. Sleep Tourism

One of the top sleep trends for 2025 is sleep tourism. Yep, booking a break away somewhere with the sole intention of getting some much needed rest and recuperation in the form of good quality sleep is very much a thing. And Gen Z in particular, are the biggest fans of this trend.

Whilst there is much to be said about sleeping in your own bed, perhaps we do sleep better when we’re away from the stresses and strains of our day to day life. And the global travel industry is both recognizing and capitalizing on this. To the extent that some hotels are now offering sleep retreats as part of the packages they offer their guests.

A sleep retreat could include:

  • Pillow menus
  • Sleep teas
  • Sleep inducing toiletries like bath salts and pillow sprays
  • Sleep trackers
  • Sleep programmes consisting of meditation, yoga, sound baths etc.
  • Specialist sleep coaches

These are more than spa breaks, these are comprehensive sleep programmes, a chance for guests to really focus on improving their sleep and seeking advice from sleep experts in a space that takes them away from the distractions of home life.

As if we needed any more reasons to book a holiday, sleep tourism is going to be everywhere next year. Pass me my passport pronto!

4. Brain Dumping

There is nothing more frustrating than when you can feel yourself nodding off on the sofa, so you take yourself off to bed, only for you to pull the duvet up, nestle your head on the pillow and ‘PING’ suddenly you’re wide awake.

It happens a lot. Often when we’ve had a busy day, we’ve got a lot on, our heads are crammed full of things we need to do the next day, thing we didn’t get done that day, appointment reminders, things you need to buy, school admin, life admin, work admin… the list goes on and on. You’re physically tired, but your brain has other ideas.

This is by far the simplest and cheapest of the sleep trends for 2025 but is one of the most powerful and effective ways to improve your sleep. Brain dumping involves dumping out everything from your head before settling down to sleep. With the idea being that by moving it from head to paper you will feel less stressed and more in control, so therefore will be able to relax into sleep mode more easily. There are different ways you can do this. Some people like to keep a notebook by the side of their bed and spend a few minutes writing everything down. Other, more visual people, prefer to literally draw out a waste bin and write down their brain dumpings in the bin. Some people prefer jotting things down on a phone (just be careful of this one, as the blue light emitted from devices is not good for sleep). Find a way that works for you. Most importantly this is about clearing your mind of anything you’re worried you might forget, unfinished tasks, or worries you might have, so that the pressure is taken away from your brain, and you can instead focus on falling asleep.

5. Smart Mattresses

Technology develops faster and faster with each passing year and it’s no different in the sleep tech world. 2025 will see more and more of us investing in smart mattresses; mattresses that gather individual data and offer a completely personalized approach to sleep.

Smart mattresses of the future will be able to:

  • Track sleep
  • Regulate temperature
  • Monitor health
  • Connect to WiFi
  • Detect snoring
  • Play relaxing meditation sounds
  • Set and alarm
  • Adjust your sleep position

They’ll be pricey to begin with, let’s be honest. But give it a few years, and we can see smart mattresses become a common household object, at which point prices will come down, and we’ll all be sleeping on one.

6. Scandinavian Sleep Method

You know how annoying it is when you get caught up in some mad game of duvet tug of war in the middle of the night because your partner’s hogging it and you’re left clutching on to the tiniest edge of fabric in a bid to keep warm? Well, we’ve got just the solution for you!

All good trends come from Scandinavia, right? The Danes gave us hygge. The Norwegians gave us friluftsliv.  And The Swedes gave us fika. So, it comes as no surprise that the very same countries who gave us all of these lovely things are also contributing to our sleep trends for 2025.

It’s very common in Scandinavian countries for couples to have their own duvet. The Scandinavian sleep method therefore involves sharing a bed with your partner but sleeping with two twin duvets instead of one. So, every time your partner rolls over, you’ve still got your duvet. If you’re feeling a bit hot, you can simply throw your own duvet off without disturbing your partner. It also means that if one of you prefers a certain thickness, or comfort of duvet you can mix and match your duvet styles without it bothering the other person. It is quite frankly, genius.

Final Thoughts

How well we sleep can be influenced by so many different factors, and what may work for one person may not for another. The thing is with trends, is that they’re absolutely everywhere one minute, then you blink and something else has come in to take its place. So, you kinda have to take them with a pinch of salt. However, one of these 6 sleep trends for 2025 may offer you exactly the help you need to improve your sleep, which is why it’s worth giving them a try at least. Which one do you like the sound of the most?
